Dear all:

I have always found the 911 to be a nice style and in my mind,
when I think porsche I think of the style of the 87 or 89 with the cab
top and the whale tail (the extended, wider wheel well of the turbo
look is also nice).

I just wanted to know if the style really looks good or am I just
being tainted with my high school dreams.  See, in high school, about
10,15 years ago, I always dreamed of owning one of those.

Is my sense of beauty tainted by that nostalgia?  I ask because a
friend of mine thinks that the newest turbos (2004) is the best
looking.  Is he wrong or has my sense of beauty been biased because of
fond childhood memories?

Need some objective opinions on this very subjective subject
matter.

thx in advance.

I agree !!!!!! I look at the new porsches and  I see just another car, yes
nice but just another car not too much unlike a saturn or   toyota!!!!!!! I
think the "bug eyed" look of the older 9 11 should NEVER had been changed I
drive a 84 Targa (daily) and would not trade with a new one YA I KNOW the
price difference is about 60;000 . I dont care I will keep mine . Mine IS
pristine

Well...I've had both, including a 2000 C2 coupe.  While it's true that the
new cars are light years ahead on comfort and practicality, the older ones
have a "character" that's hard to duplicate.  I determined that it was
impractical to drive and park a $75,000 modern Carrera around a busy city,
so I found a truly pristine '88 Cab (less than 29K miles even after 2 yrs.
of ownership.  It's a beauty, but only practical for weekend use, not to
mention the necessity of removing the boot to raise the top and marginal A/C
in this hot climate.

Me thinks that Emanuel is right...as far as the air-cooled cars are
concerned, the 993 probably has the best styling; however, a very close 2nd
is the '84-'89 Carrera series.

This isn't exactly the group to visit for objective opinions about
Porsches. But I'll say that the basic shape has endured for 40 years
now, so quite a few people appear to be fond of it. Most car
enthusiasts prefer the cars made when they were young, so Boomers tend
to like the impact bumper cars made from 74-89 (hence my 83 targa).
The most beautiful 911 of all time is, imo, the 993.
