When did the 911 engine start using water cooling?

TIA
Weekend Guru - 22 Sep 2004 15:32 GMT
The 1999, 996 model was the first "street" car.  However, the factory has
been using water cooling for some of the race cars at least back into the
early 90's.

Week Guru:

Thanks.

Are both the heads and the cylinders water cooled?

TIA

Yes. The water pump circulates coolant at the rate of 14,000 liters per
hour. From the cylinder block the coolant enters the cylinder heads from
the exhaust side of the engine and leaves from the intake side. 70% of
the coolant flows through the cylinder heads, 20% through the blocks and
10% through the oil/water intercooler.
