Hi

I own a 1979 911 SC with a pretty standard motor.

I want more output but have been told there is virtually NOTHING that can be
done to the standard CIS motors that won't involve $10,000 + and I would be
much better off spending less money on a 3.2L conversion.

Has anyone got any feedback on this situation?

If a 3.2L conversion is indeed the way to go, is it a big drawn out tedious
job or a straight forward conversion?

Is the 3.2L motor a bullet proof motor or can I expect a host of new faults
to be mindful of?

I am very competent at mechanical work and service / rebuild all of my own
sports cars without any problem.

Yes, the costs can grow in a steep curve, but a set of SSIs will be
your cheapest HP per dollar gain.  The bulletproof SC motor can be
squeezed for ~240HP, but you may not want to drop that kind of coin.
There is no replacement for displacement and the 3.2 should hook up
with a little bit of work.  The electronics would be the biggest
trouble, I would think.  It has been done plenty and there should be
resources available.  Check Rennlist, Pelican, and the PCA.  I think the
guides are the weak point of the 3.2, but that just means smoke sometime
later on, that's all.  Nothing catastrophic.  The motor is solid otherwise.
At a 12-15HP gain, the SSIs may be enough...?
