'84 911 clutch acts strange.  Works fine most of the time.  Then it starts
to do something strange.  Feels like it is slipping, than it catches,
usually in first gear.  Tach does not show slipping.  No burning smell.
Not able to isolate when this is going to happen.  Very intermittent.  Just
a loss of power like the cluth is not fully enganged, then it catches and I
have a boost of power....sort of like the turbo lag?  Any help.

It sounds like a wet clutch or worn clutch.  It could be wet from a little
oil from the engine but dries as it heats up.  Does it do it all the time or
only when the car is first driven after it has sat for a while?  It only
takes slipping the clutch one time to ruin it.

I had one where the springs were worn also.  The only way to tell is get a
look at the assembly.

Best of Luck!
