Oil changes....

Greetings,
I purchased a pre-owned 1997 Cabriolet last November.  The oil was
changed (during the 30,000 maintenance) just before I purchased the car.
The car was garaged last winter, and driven about 4,000 miles so far
this year.  (I have 32,000 miles on it right now.)  I plan on garaging
the car again this winter once the weather starts to turn bad.

My question is, should I change the oil this year just before I retire
the car for the winter, or should I garage the car during the winter,
and change the oil first thing next spring?

Looking for your $0.02.
Thanks,
Rick

personally, I'd change it before, to get any contaminants out of the
engine - you clearly don't drive it much so that will be more of a problem
than on a car driven a lot.  But let's see what others say

It'd be better not to leave that dirty oil around sitting inside your
motor.  If you change it now, you can't go wrong and it'll be ready to go in
the spring.  You should probably read up on some more storage tips if you
don't practice them already...try this site:

always good to change oil before storing because the oil becomes acidic as
it is used.  Make it fresh and clean for the winter is the norm/

Yes a change before seasons is good. . Old oil has acids in it and if you
start up your car, the acids can remain near the top of the stroke . This is
where the top of the rings push oil within .250" of the top of the cylinder.
Experts say if you don't warm up your car properly and just let the engine
sit for a while, the acids affect the top of the cylinder. Which is where
your compression is really key.
