Can someone tell me the difference between these
two cars? The price differential seems to be high.

Can I 'make' a '67 911 into a 911S?

It is basically in the engine -- the 911S engine has more compression, a
different cam, different clutch plate.

The straight 911 was 140 hp; the 911S was 180 hp.

I have an original 67 911S Targa.

I thought there were differences in the suspension and possibly brakes,
as well.

According to "Porsche 911 Story" by Paul Frere (7th edition),
and "Porsche: Excellence Was Expected" by Karl Ludvigsen (updated edition)
the major changes in the 911S over the 911 were engine-related.

That is correct -- the 911S has ventilated disks, as well as the alloy
wheels. My wheels actually bear 904 part numbers; the suspensions on
Targas were deliberately soft, to accommodate the flexible body. Coupes
had Koni shocks a standard equipment.

As I posted earlier, the S engine is totally different.
