hello

i'm car novice, so bare with me (if my question may seem stupid)

my question is drivetrains: hypothetically, if one was blind-folded behind
the wheel of various sportscars....

could one determine the drivetrain...simply by feel/sound etc?

front engine, front real drive
front engine, rear wheel drive
mid-engine, all-wheel drive
mid-engine, rear-wheel drive
rear-engine, rear wheel drive
rear-engine, all-wheel drive (911 turbo, my fav.)

I've driven them all, and I think it's doubtful most people could tell the
difference, and it would depend a lot on the circumstances.  Just changing
the tire pressures can make a car push or oversteer, and there aren't many
performance cars with front wheel drive these days.  Snow and ice would
definitely make an AWD car standout, and lifting your foot off the throttle
in the middle of a turn should make that rear engine rear wheel drive car
spin out, but with today's traction control that may not be the case.

Now, you just have to find someone who will drive a car around a track
blindfolded.
