> How can I tell if my air conditioner is running on R12?
If the fittings to fill your system look like a tire valve,
then you have R12, if the fittings are larger, and
look like air fittings (snap on) then it is R134
> How hard is it convert my air conditioner for R12 to R134A?
Get the system evacuated out, then put in the oil
and R134. Kits go for about 50 bucks

I went with a Sanden rotory compressor. It came with a a bracket kit and
new evaporator. I was actually suprised at how easy it was. A bonus was
that it produce much much colder air, and was about a fourth the drag on the
engine. In summary.....I love the upgrade.

The "about a fourth the drag on the engine caught my attention". That is my
only complaint about my OEM compressor. What did you spend on this upgrade?
Maybe I'll do it.
