Can someone please tell me when the brake pads are typically replaced?
My mechanic tells me that mine are at 4mm in front and need to be done
immediately.  It is at the shop now, so I wanted to get a second
opinion.

Thanks!

4 mm isn't much - I'd replace them - I replace when they are around
1/8 inch, which at 25 mm to the inch is ....

If you can't afford pads now, you will probably wear through them in a
little bit and then have to change the sensor wires also and maybe the
rotors.
