I am a new Porsche owner recently purchasing a 1983 944. However I
live in an area where porsche specialists are impossible to find. I
have a leak in my Porsche and I was curious if anyone could tell me
what it could be. I believe it is a gasket leak that needs to be
replace, but I am having trouble getting a parts estimate to see how
much parts alone would be to determine if it was worth putting the
money into.

The symptoms are as follows.

1. Can start and run in park, and in fact runs well. The leak starts a
little after it has been running.
2. The leak is obviously coolant.
3. When the car is shut off the leak continues for a short period,
then slows to a drip.

There is a picture with the area that is leaking high-lighted. the
surge of the leak comes from two bolts.

If anyone could tell me what component that is and anyone other advice
I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

plan on changing the water pump.  pull the belt cover and you can see
the front of the pump, you will see coolant dripping from the front of
the pump where the shaft exits the body.  When you change it, install
the newer style pump = there is a template on what to cut in the
plastic shrouds to accommodate the new pump, and you add a roller and
a guide.  Plan on changing timing and balance shaft belt at the same
time.  plan on breaking several bolts and CAREFULLY drilling them out
