I have a 85.5 944 (new style car but old style sunroof. go figure).
The car came with no sunroof motor. I bought replacement gears for the
new style not knowing the difference... Long story short: I now hate
my non-functional sunroof. Does anyone have knowledge on converting
the roof from power to manual? I know I will need some parts, but
don't know exactly what parts I need or how to mount them. Any insight
would be appreciated.
Oh, and I called my local dealership. They have a strict policy
against doing any AC conversions (separate issue) and they won't work
on any Sunroof older than 1995. Snobs!
I dont' understand the relationship between buying new gears and
having no motor. If you are missing the motor, I don't understand why
you bought gears. my 85.5 had old style roof lifting, it wasn't too
hard to fix, no need to change gears.
Why are you going to dealer for AC conversion - just go to pep boys
and buy the kit - it's pretty easy. or pay an AC shop to do it for
you if you can't be bothered with it, but the dealer??? that seems
silly (and expensive). If you can tolerate a decrease in AC, you just
change the freon to 134 - no need to do anything else (oh, add some
special oil and new screw on valve adapters).
