I have a diagnosis on a 1987 944 from my mechanic. The shift lever will not
lock into pack. It does on the shift itself but not the transmission.
Apparently there is a cable sheath that covers a transmission cable that has
separated. Is this something that anyone else has encountered? Does the
exhaust systems need to be dropped to replace the cable. Of course this is
an OEM item from Porsche.

Thanks.

aaah, is this an automatic?  I've never known anyone with an automatic in a
porsche, though I have seen the cars - I'd expect to pull the exhaust if he
has to lower the transaxle, but what exactly is the question you are asking?
