'86 944, Fan running after keys turned off.

Noticed this after a test drive recently but not on any others I have
driven.
Normal? or has the previous owner been messing with the electrical
system?

Depends. Did it run for a few minutes and then shut off or did it continue
to run "forever". The former is normal, the latter signifies a failure of
the temperature sensor mounted on the lower left of the radiator.
Replacement costs about $35 US.
