On a 1989 944 S2, can anyone tell me the baseline setting for the adjusting
screw that sets the throttle stop in the closed throttle position? I know
this shouldn't be messed with but I have reason to believe it has. If I run
the screw back until the throttle valve stops itself in the bore, how many
turns in would be a good reference point? Thanks for any help you can give
me.

it should just keep the throttle valve from closing all the way.  you have a
motor controlled valve that bypasses the throttle valve to maintain idle.
back the screw all the way out, and then tighten it until you just see the
cam move the tiniest bit.  there are specific instructoins in the porsche
manual - you may wish to read them.
