Windows, fan & fog lights

Hi all,

Now, here's a problem...!

Sometimes, when I try and lower the electric windows in my '85 944
(oval dash) they are very very slow. Also, wait for it, the fog lights
come on, the battery charge meter (voltmeter) registers only 12v and
the fan sticks on level one fan and I can't change it. Oh, and it only
blows HOT air and then on a 15 minute cycle.

Strangely, the system sometimes resets itself when I turn the engine
off.

I hope this makes sense!

If anyone has any ideas I'd sure appreciate the help!

I';d look for a bad connection in the central electronics box (the one with
the relays) - I had similar problems on my 85.5 that would fix themselves if
I kicked the bottom of the box (while driving of course).  and you should
check the infamous white heater clip

With engine running check the voltage at battery with multimeter.
Should read 13.8 to 14.0 volts.  If not then your generator is bad and
or the battery is bad.  Also, clean up the ground connections from the
battery to frame and from engine to frame.
Do not kick the relay panel, you may develop real problems with that
technique.

the "kick the relay panel" (aka "central electronics") is helpful if the
problem is copper oxide within the box itself - proper voltage won't fix
that.  but, as darthpup said, don't kick it if you don't need to.  (by the
way, I have a complete panel with all relays, etc from an 87S that I'd like
to sell if anyone wants it)

Thanks for your replies. I'll see what I can do. It's a bit of a shame
for a fault like this to stop me driving the car!! Fingers crossed!!!
