I own an early 1985 944. The other day, I was testing the retractable
headlights and noticed that they would no longer go up or down. I
thought I had blown the headlight fuse. I replaced the fuse, and the
headlights would still not up or down. I then opened the hood and
noticed that the yellow wire that is attached to the passenger side
headlight was stripped and ragged and just hanging by a thread. When I
moved the wire around, the headlights went up and down like normal,
but then they would stopped working again after a while.

Would it be expensive to have the headlight wire replaced? Is there a
good quick fix? I was thinking about trying electrical tape, or
cutting and splicing the wires with a crimp connector.

Splicing that wire should do it.
