Is it a clicking?  If it is the probability of a CV joint is high.  In
either case pulling the half shaft doesn't take long-- including getting up
on jack stands couldn't be more than 30-45 minutes if you have the right
tools--- which I think is an 8mm cheese head and a couple of extensions and
a ratchet.  You don't even have to pull the wheel.  I think its only eight
bolts on either end and out--- not a big deal.  changing the cv joint from
there should be no problem although I haven't done it yet.  Changing the
boot should be easy.  Course you know that the moment I say that it will be
the most difficult job on the car!!  If you're worried change it out rather
than having it break at a bad time --- like at 100mph in the middle of a
curve---that could get exciting.

Good luck
