Have 86 NA 944 bought new.

Just replaced $5000 in parts and labor.

When I drive it and come back to it a few hours later or sometimes sooner It
won't start.

No spark............  Later it will start.

Replaced DME, sensor for crank.

Anyone have a good mechanic in NJ or NY.

Preferably in the Monmouth NJ area.

Thanks;

Try jiggling the wiring harness going to the DME (passenger footwell). They are
known to fail. Sounds like you have an intermittent.

Check the low voltage side of the coil with someone cranking the engine.
I believe the side attached to the DME should go between ground and open,
but I'm not sure. The other side should be at 12V.
If the DME is sending the proper signals, I'd replace the coil or look
carefully at the distributor cap.

Also my 83 944 has two sensors for the crank.  I believe some later models
have only one sensor, but you should double check.
