Hi to all can any one help me with this problem I am getting with my 1988
944 when I open the drivers door the button only just moves a bit and the
passenger door sometimes goes up and sometimes it don't and when it don't
open you just can't pull it open it will only open by the key outside and
locking up drivers locks ok but passenger 9 times out of 10 wont lock. Even
more strange is you go round to the passenger side and both door lock and
unlock fine. any ideas what is at fault.
many thanks

Peter

1. please rewrite using more than one sentence so I can understand what you
are trying to say.
2. there is a switch in the door lock, it could be bad, it could be wires
from the switch to the locking system, or I could be misunderstanding your
post.

if it works fine from passanger's side, it's not the lock motors themselves

ok retyped to make clearer

1. Drivers side - opens both doors intermittently will only lock drivers
side.
2. Passenger side - Opens both doors ok on locking drivers side will not
close it just pops open all the time.

many thanks for your help.

well, it sounds electrical.  On the one 944 I work on regularly with central
locking, I had a mechanical problem -- on both sides, the lock motors
connect to the lock with a plastic clip that fails (it clips over a ball,
making a socket).  I replaced them, and that pretty much fixed it.

The switch is part of the door handle - you can remove the door handle
(screw is even with the handle, in the edge of the door), but be very
careful - there is a wire and two thin linkages.  You can then try cleaning
the switch and see if that helps.

Or you can remove the door panel and use a jumper wire to short the contacts
the switch goes to and see if all is well when you bypass the switch.

The driver's side not closing sounds like a mechanical problem, I'd pull the
door panel and look (it's hard to see what's going on, you will need a
mirror and a bright light)
