I recently purchased a 1985 944 with 148k miles and it is in excellent shape.  However, I am having problems regulating the cabin temperature.  I live in the northeast and the avg daily temp has been approx 40f.  After reading some posts here, I see some of the same concerns, however they seem relative to operational rather than function.  It appears that the auto cabin temperature is not sensing the rising temp in the cabin and continues to deliver hot air regardless that the knob is full counter-clockwise.  There have been instances when the air flowing from the vents has responded and delivered cooler/cool air but in about 2 weeks, I can only recall this happening once or twice.  The ultimtae question...is this a simple fix or is this something more involved with the system?  Any response would be appreciated.  Thanks!
