Fred:
This sounds like you have a problem with the seals leaking by. Most would
recommend replacing both the clutch master and slave cylinders, and I tend
to agree, because 9 times out of 10 replacing just one will cause the other
to fail.
However, if you want to save some cash, you can rebuild both cylinders.
First, go to your local NAPA dealer and ask for their part #1899, Clutch
Master Kit. Cost is about $20.00, and if you are a AAA member just show
your card for a discount.
For the slave kit, go to http://www.partsamerica.com and seach for
CSK103545. Cost is $16.52 + shipping.
This should get you back on the road.

Hey Cliff,
Would these same part numbers apply to an 87 944, (Like your recent
addition). The clutch hydraulics are all that I have left to do on my
rebuild.

Did Cliff ever reply to this--- I also have an 87 na and would love to
rebuild rather than replace at $55 on each end of the hydraulic line.

No. I haven't seen anything from him for a few days, except his posts on
the rennlist e-mail daily digest. I be happy to just spend $55 each on
mine. I'm wary of knock offs on my P-car.

This is the same Cliff as Rennlist? I didn't know. The parts from Vertex
are knock-offs then? Ok that explains the difference between the (for want
of a better word) plunger in the clutch master cylinder that I got
there.--but it seems to work ok ---although I seem to have gotten some air
in the system that I'm going to have to bleed out this weekend. Still will
be interested in the rebuild kits. That would give me spare clutch master
and slave cylinders. (the ones originally on the car and the ones I got
from Vertex.) Thanks
