Greetings,

I've been looking at a Porsche 944 with nearly 400,000 miles on it for
$2600. The body is actually in pretty good shape (some minor rust in
small areas) and it appears to be in good running condition. The
interior is a mess, however, with several cosmetic repairs needed - in
fact, it could use a whole new interior.

The car was listed at $4000 and I worked it down to $2600 due to the
very high mileage. I know it will need work and has no real resale
value, due to it's age.

I've never owned a Prosche before. Is this a fair price?

RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN......

It will cost you far more then if you took that money and puchased one
that was in better condition

He's right.
I don't know where you are located, but I have a red/black '86 944 w/215K,
original exterior w/no rust, a beautiful interior, new tires, all maintenance
current, and everything works except the cruise control (no documentation seems
available on the thing) for $4300. Sometimes you get what you pay for!

Larry,

on the cruise control if it works but is erratic, replace the unit under
the hood,  it it doesn't work at all, replace the brain under the dash,
drivers side near your feet.   either unit will run in the $75 UDS range
in the used market...

Regards,

Doug

My only answer is NO WAY.  That is a lot of money for a car with that much
mileage.

The important thing to remember is that even little parts can be very
expensive for these cars.

I would walk away, and then go find another 944!

Good luck

Thanks guys. Yeah, I did decide to walk away after all. Better luck next
time, I guess.

Is this 944 still on its original engine???  Pretty amazing if it is.

Some important questions to ask..
Is the engine rebuilt?
By who and how many miles on rebuild?
When were the balance and timing belts, and water pump changed?
How often did you change the oil?
Any obvious leaks
Get a compression check.
Is shifting loose or stubborn?
Sometimes its best to spend the $150. for a PP at the local Porsche dealer
