I have a 1988 944 and no spark comes out the coil. I checked the power
coil to the coil and there is power but nothing comes out. The DME relay
is new and therefore, power the fuel pump does work. I wounder if the
reference sensors could be the problem. At any rate, I took them off and
cleaned them. but I have not adusted them because I dont know if they go
calibrated or what. Could somebody please help me. I do have mechanic
experience so it will not be hard for me to understand instructions or
sugestions. Thank you.

test the coil itself, that's easy. if it's ok, put a scope on the ref
sensors and see if they are putting out the proper wave forms (see the
manual) - if you don't have the manual, download it following the link
posted here last month. you will find a detailed answer to your query
therein. You don't have to guess on this, it's straight forward.

This is common, when engines get reinstalled. The two sensors; DG-Timing;
BG-RPMs are often not set close enough to the rotating flywheel pins and
ring gear. The correct clearance is .028mm (Factory spark plug gap), or
roughly the thickness of a dime.
