Asking a question for a friend who's son has a '84 944 that broke the
timing belt. Obviously some of the valve stems were bent as a result,
but he would like to know if the pistons were machined with valve
clearance indentations or were all 4 pistons "indented identically" as
a result of the broken timing belt..
Thanks for you help.

Your 1984 944 pistons should have a shallow circular recess at the center
of the piston top, with two moon-shaped indents for slight valve
clearance. Only the Euro 944 has the high-compression Mahle pistons,
characterized by the blackened, flat piston tops.
