I've got a vibration in my drive train which I suspect are the engine mounts
in my 83-944.  These are the originals and I have 56k miles on the car.

Can some one give me an estimate to replace them in US $??

Does it hurt the car to drive with worn mounts??

look up price at www.importedcarparts.com - they seem to have the lowest (at
least that I found) - the job is harder than it ought to be

I paid about $600 to have a shop replace mine with the 951 mounts.  I
wouldn't drive it too much with worn mounts as the vibrations can cause
damage.

I have a 1987 924s with 150k miles and I am experiencing vibration when I
put car in first gear and start accelerating and also reverse. i took it
too a mechanic who told me it was drivers error but I think it might be
engine mounts. Can someone clue me in on the typical symtoms of bad engine
mounts and if my problem sounds like its engine mounts...thanks

If they are the original mounts, replace them.  How many miles are on the
clutch?  Vibration in reverse could be clutch going bad.  A good way to tell
bad mounts is: when the car is stopped in neutral, idling and its vibrating.
If you can make the vibrating go away by giveing it a little gas without the
clutch, then the mounts need changed.  You can also measure them if you
want.  Clarks garage probably has the procedure to measure them.

I looked at replacing my motor mounts once until a water pump
replacement revealed a broken balance shaft belt.  I'd explore that
first.  Engine ran fine, just a little bouncy.

if you have vibration at idle, and none at cruise then it is motor
mounts.... $100 each and a couple of hours in labor.
