Problem #1: Switches for the electric windows:

After the windows failed to operate, I removed the switches from the
door panel, took them apart, and used a small file to clean the contacts.
Though I got all three switches to work singly, i.e., in the driver side,
the passenger side window will only operate from the passenger side door
(despite requiring both sides to be installed).  Any of the three switches
in any of the three positions works the same.

What did I miss?

Problem #2:  The removeable (power) sunroof.

The lift mechanism does not work anymore.  My check of the fuse box revealed
no problems.

With the switch in the "O" position, the "down" switch caused the motor to
operate and so now the roof is "unlatched", i.e., ready to be removed.  But
I can't get the reverse (locking) process to work.

I removed the switch, took it apart, and cleaned up the contacts.  No
difference.  And in the "O" position, you can still hear the motor engage
if you try the unlatching procedure, but again, not the locking procedure.

Suggestions?  And will the manual mode cause the latch lock to engage?

#1--I can't answer

#2, Use the manual lift to lock the sunroof.  What you experienced seems to
be the microswitches near the relays.  I managed to get a part off a used
924S and that fixed the problem.  I'd call parts heaven or go to
www.partsheaven.com speak to Jeff, he's been great on getting hard to find
parts.

Where are these microswitch/relays located?  Under the dash, atop the
fuse box or something?  Wish I had a layout / schematic.

The microswitch relays are located in the drivers rear luggage compartment.
Lift the left saddle back cover and you'll see the sunroof motor assembly.
I had to replace the entire thing and the sunroof works.

Also, get the Haynes Porsche  944 book it has some great layouts on
electrics.  There is also a site on the net.  I went to it to diagnose the
problem

One of the others on this board may remember the site.

I had the same problem with my 87.
If the Microswitches on the motor assembly are good and the relays on
the motor assembly are good (mine all were) then the problem is with
the microswitch in the front of the sunroof opening. I could not
reason why they put this switch there so I jumpered the circuit(switch
loop)  at the motor assembly. My sunroof has been working fine ever
since.

the sunroof switch is there so the car knows if the sunroof is in place or
not - it needs to know that to operate correctly.

2. windows switches - you probably didnt get all the contacts clean, but it
is possible that there is a broken wire going into the driver's side door, I
suppose.

Car ran like a dream for 300 miles. Next day, turned fine but wouldn't
start; no sparks. Coil feed is fine and circuit good to electronic control
module; looks like this is the problem. Anyone had problems with these
modules? and know where in North UK I could get a good used one. thanks for
your help.  Pete.
