I have a 1989 944 and lately I?ve been noticing that a squawking noise
has been coming from the engine compartment when I start my car. The
duration of the noise is pretty short and sometimes it does it twice.

Any idea what might be causing this; it?s been doing it as long as
I?ve owned the car (I purchased it in May).

Check you alternator and power steering belts, most likely a bit loose or
worn.

Could also be a low level for the power steering fluid.

Good luck
