I was rearended in my '86 944NA Thursday. Very minor damage - pushed the bumper
forward and folded the exhaust system. The Jetta that hit me will likely be
totalled. A tribute to the 944 design, IMO.
Although the bumper pushed forward as designed, there is only cosmetic damage.
Can the bumper shock mounts be pulled back out or are they replacement items?

yes, they just bolt to the body, make sure the body where they bolt
into is not damaged. Porsche p/n 477 807 181

As Doug wrote, they just bolt to the body. The shock can be pried
back out, but it's not recommended. You can find them on eBay for
about $20 + shipping. I bought some for my '83. IIRC, the front and
rear shocks are interchangeable, and the NA shocks are the same from
'83-89.

No advise here, but I too was rear-ended by a General Motors Masterpiece.
Very minor work on the rear. Car that hit me looked like a HUGE bill. My
body shop (Farraris, Porshes, BMers, etc.) fixed it in a couple of days.
Don't skimp. Replace everything on the other guys dime.
