HELP HELP SOS SOS SOS
I bought an 1984 Porsche 944 in San Diego, and was driving it home...
Made it about 100 mi. Then going about 80, suddenly nothing. Tach went
to zero while the car was still moving. I pulled it to the next town.
Took it to a garage they started checking... 2 days later all they
could say is that it has no spark. They thought it might be the
refernce mark on the flywheel, maybe it came off.
After two days they were not shure if they could fix it at all. I gave
them $150.00 and pulled it home.
I found the refernce mark, it's there. Replaced a reference sensor
$159.00 because it had exposed wire at its base. (just ground I
think.) I've bought a computer off ebay, then sent mine off to be
tested. It came back good. The coil tests good and has juice to it.
There just is no pulse coming from the computer.
This has cost me a bunch of money and I'm now stranded here. If anyone
knows something PLEASE reply.
Thanks, Bill

It may be the DME relay.
Look for instructions on the net about how to bypass it.
Try Clark's Garage.

I'm with Apogee - I had a relay strand me in Penn on the 800 mile
trip home with my 928; I jury-rigged it by wedging a piece of paper in
it to keep the contacts closed until I got home.

The fact that the tach went to zero is mysterous and probably is
pointing to the problem. I have an 84 944. It is very important that
the battery ground to the frame is clean and the ground connections
from the engine to frame are clean.
Check the fuel pressure. See previous post here on Oct 9. Sensors
can only be checked with an o scope. Tell us about the no pulse
observations.

I don't have time to study the schematic now, but as I recall the tach is
driven by the DME - if that's right, then a bad dme relay would do it.
Don't your mechanics have any idea how to troubleshoot? Don't they have
manuals? (you can DL the manual from teh web, I've posted the link several
times) - there is a detailed troubleshooting flow chart, just use it.

I've just replaced the DME relay, still no spark. What is the link for
the manual? Or where did you post it? I'm new on this group and have
little idea about how to find things. Thanks again, Bill
