I really like the body style of the early 944s. (The "flared" fenders
do it for me). Some later models don't have them but some do. It
seems like it's the turbo models with them. Is this true or do some
other non-turbo models have them also? Like the 944S or S2?
Also, $8000 for an 83 with 130,000 miles in fairly good condition
(dealer), going rate or not? Seem kind of high for an older model
with that many miles.

Keep looking.
The desirable models are 85.5 and later.
You can buy a nice car for $4500.
All 944s have the flares you are looking for - the 924s don't.

the 924 models do not hvae the flared fenders, all 944 after 85.5 do ,
also the non-turbo 85.5 or later will have big rubber things on the
front and rear bumper, the Turbo models do not
8,000 for an 83 is way high, that is an average price for an 87
non-turbo with that mileage... for an 83 the street price is more in
the $3500 range... and that is for one in really good condition and
records...

944S2 (1990 / 92) is the one to get, should be able to find a reasonably
decent one for $8k.

Eight grand for an '83 with that sort of mileage is OUTRAGEOUS
unless it's recently been repainted, had the engine rebuilt, and has
two gold bars in the trunk. That kind of money will buy a decent 944
Turbo, 944S2, or a good 944S.

Not really, your are making the assumption that the OP is talking US
Dollars. He may not be.

Well, it was Dollars, and Miles, so it is a pretty good bet.
Plus he was posting thru "gnilink.net" which seems to be in the
NE U.S.
All in all I would have to go with the assumption.
Plus, we in the US always assume we are the only place
that exists, and that seems to work for us, :)

Fair enough. I paid $10500 for mine ('86 na) and it has 128000 miles on the
clock. NZD and miles due to it being a Brit import.
For NZ that's about right. Supply and demand I guess. Plus it's got to be a
right-hand drive.
Cheers,
Alex

The 944 was enormously popular in the US, so they're very plentiful
here. I parked my 944 only 2 cars away from another 944 tonight, and
there are a couple more within a block of my place. My '83 is
mechanically sound but with faded paint and worn carpets, and it cost
me $2000. I've been offered a lower-mileage, 2-owner '83 with sport
seats and LSD for $4000. Still trying to decide...

for what it's worth, I've bought two 87 944s, one a normal, one an S for
between $3000 and $3300 each - both needed some work, but not a lot - paint,
some dings and dents, some misc stuff - a few hundered $$ more - so fully
fixed, each was in the $4K US range - 87 is a much more desireable car than
83, so it should be more valuable. The fact that I bought two of them in
the last few years suggests that this really is a realistic price.
