I'm repainting a 944, so I"ll need the porsche decal and a set of stone
guards - if bought from the dealer, this will cost nearly as much as the
paint job (about $150 for the stone guards, $40 for the decal, and $22 for
the stick on emblem in the back). I find them a little cheaper a few
places - where is the best place to get these things? I can buy the 3-M
film and cut out my own patterns, but of course I destroyed the pieces
getting them off, so I don't have a perfect pattern.
suggestions anyone?

Lemme see, not enough traffic here, right. Seriously though, IIRC, I've seen
the stone guards at a place like "My Porsche"-their speciality seems to be
literature, I just googled 944 stone guards and came up with quite a few
hits, Pelican, for example:

Now that I've done my bit, you need to issue some words of encouragement so
that I will bring my '87s out of extended storage, after I've done the work,
of course.

Bill,
Performance Products has the "clear vinyl" things that apply to the
front lower sections of the fendoers, llast time I looked at their
catalog, they also carried the vaious stickers and such , except for the
CA smog approval sticker.

yep, performance products has them, and a bunch of other places, but buying
from perf products would cost $160 for the stone guards, pelican parts is a
little cheaper (about $102), the cheapest price on the decal is
porschedecals.com
but still I'd like to avoid $$$

the workshop manual has a procedure for removing the things and
re-applying after a repaint,
involves using a heatgun

Check the forums at Rennlist. I seem to recall one of the guys doing
some pretty good freelance graphics work. I'm sure that he could do the
decals too.
