I get water leaking into the rear of my 1988 944S via the pins which secure
the rear hatch. It is getting in under the rubber seal mounted on the hatch
around the pin, and then between the rubber seal inside the opening the pin
goes into and the body shell, and runs down into the spare wheel well. I am
planning to replace the (seized) pins so that I can pull the hatch seal
tighter to the body, and perhaps also to apply sealer to the seal inside
the body to force the water to run down the drains under the catches.
Anyone got any experience of curing this problem?

Welcome to the 944 leak club. You can slow it down with some silicone
oil spray and some silicone grease in the right places. I tried a
cylinder of silicone sealant in a caulking gun and almost stopped it.

It's the 924/944 leak club. I had the same problem, the body shop had the
hatch sealed with windshield sealant...leak stopped!! It leaks around the
around the upper hatch pins and then follows down the rear hatch metal,
leaking into the saddlebags and around the rear carpet. I thought for a
long time it was the drains for the sunroof.

I seriously doubt that it's the pins - I'll bet you (place valuable item
here) that you will find that the top of the hatch glass has debonded from
the frame, the only real solution is to remove the glass from the frame and
reglue - I've done it, not too bad a job but you must use the proper
adhesives and primers, don't use silicone, it won't hold for long

I have observed the leak and seen it as I described in my original post.
