rev counter problem

hi i've just bought a 1983 944 and when i turn on the ignition the rev
counter goes right up to maximum, i havent looked into the problem yet as
im a relative begginer and was just wondering if this is a common problem,
where i need to look and what needs replacing.

The speed sensor sends data to the computer which then actuates the
tachometer.
If your engine is running OK then the problem is either with the
computer or the tachometer itself.  Sounds like a short circuit.
Go over to www.clarks-garage.com and become more familiar with the car.
