I just today got the chance to test out what is possibly wrong with my car.
My last posts i have explianed that i bought the car and the guy said he
was driving it and it just shut off and wouldn't start again. What i have
checked is the following:

Engine turns over
Spark is found at the distrubutor
Everything electirical seems to be working
There is fuel in the fuel rail
Fuel pump is pumping
Throttle is working

It turns over but doesn't make an attempt to fire, just cranks and cranks.
If there are any other possibilities such as the alarm or cam's not working
please elaborate. Thanks

do you have compression? are you sure the timing is OK?  a quick compression
check will tell you everything you need to know, I suspect, particularly if
the car is cranking unusually fast.

William

If the car would move in gear while cranking it over, as in i cranked it
over while in first gear, wouldn't it  have plenty of compresion? and how
do i exactly check my timing. I'm going to replace the distributor and
sparkplugs and cables. Is there any other possibilities?

Get a gauge and check the fuel pressure at the rail.  25-35 psi

If you are seeing spark in the plugs then ignition is not the problem.

The computer controls the timing.

NO, there is no relation between the existance of compression and whether
the car moves in first gear - buy, borrow or rent a compression tester.  If
you measure 0 on all cylinders, you have no compression and  you know what
your problem is.
Timing - to check timing, verify that the timing mark on the cam (on the S,
it's at the back of the pulley seen through a plug in the top) is aligned
with the mark when the OT on the flywheel is aligned with the timing
pointer.

Your problem is very similar to mine but I went as far as changing the fuel
pump, dme relay, ignition wires, coil, distributor caps and all the fu.
What you need to check is your coil, if you coil receive power but does not
output anything to the distributor this may be caused by a couple of things:

-Faulty speed sensor and Reference Mark sensor (both located above the bell
housing)
-Your DME unit is faulty.

I would definately check the sensors because they have a bad reputation of
going on the fritz for no reasons.

Good Luck

Stephan

note that the S also uses a hall effect sensor on distributor that the NA
doesn't use

Is this running yet?  Just had a similar problem with 944 NA that turned
out to be fuel regulator.  Pump and spark were OK, but regulator was bad.
$50+ later, it's run fine (till I started on the clutch job from hell)
