Was wondering if guys can help me... I have an opportunity to buy a 85 944
for about 5K. It looks (inside and out) and drives mint. Two issues....they
say it needs shock bumpers...not sure if thats hard or expensive and lastly,
it has over 209,000 miles on it. Never been rebuilt and everything appears
to be very smooth. What do you think?

It's to high.
I paid 5k for a 86 944 turbo with 100,000 miles on it. The paint was
perfect and it needed some routine mtc. belts some seals, etc. It must
have been hit if it needs some shock bumpers.
The whole key with these cars is the maintenance history. If they cannot
show you what has been done, consider it not done.
Keep looking. There are a lot of these cars out there and it pays to wait
for a better deal. Try to get a 85 1/2 on.

price is high for that mileage - I bought two of them, both in the $3000 to
$3500 range, both needing what I considered minor work. if this is really
"mint", it must have been repainted, etc.

Run away
far too much money being asked... unless they have every service record
from day one, then MAYBE it might be an ok deal ... otherwise look
elsewhere.
