83 944 convertible??

Ok guys.....what have I got?  I picked up a 1983 944 convertible about a
year ago and parked it in the garage and havent played with it yet.  Any
ideas if this was a conversion done at the factory or???  It looks like
a factory deal.  Anyone ever see one.   Its got carrera gt on the trunk
lid and UGLY black luggage racks on the trunk.   Thanks!

Porsche did NOT do a 944 Cab before the 944 S2 Cab in 1990.

actually the first Cab was in 1989  with 16 making it to the USA

either way there was no cab in 83'
unless it was somones idea of a hack job

Technically they did do one convertible in 1982 or 83, and it was a one off
for an auto show and was never made road worthy. I have a picture of it
somewhere. It would be Euro spec.

There is also a 928 pick-up as well as a 4 door 911 out there as well.
 And I have a picture of a 928 station wagon, also a one off made for Ferry Porche

I knew about the 911, but a 928 Pickup yuk...   How about a 1976
Cadillac,jacked up with a 4x4 drive train, painted Metallic Line Green

They removed the hatch and formed a bed, much like the Subaru Brat.
 I knew about the 911, but a 928 Pickup yuk...   How about a 1976 Cadillac,jacked up with a 4x4 drive train, painted Metallic Line Green

that would leave one heck of a lift-over, not to mention exhaust fumes
in the cabin unless they blocked it off....   I actually prefer the 928
Spyder  conversion that is still offered up for sale,  in my mind that
would have been a much better product then the Boxster..

The 928 pickup article I read was about taxes and how as a sports car it
was taxed some heavy $ amount, but in the european country that it was
registered in, as a compact pickup, it was taxed far less...

no doubt there have "possibly" been one offs or custom hack jobs

but Porsche did NOT release a cab til the s2 in 89

so that "IS" the correct answer fellas
