Hi Guys:)   If Im sitting with the car running and tap the gas to lets
say 1500 rpms and let go of the gas pedal quickly the idle drops for a
second past where it should be stopping and almost stalls but picks up
the idle back to normal??  It does this if you rev it up to any rpm and
let go of the gas.  It accelerates perfectly.  Just changed the plugs
today and cleaned out the throttle body with no success.  Looked at
cap/rotor and wires and they are like new.  Any ideas??   Thanks!!! :)

that is fairly common and has to do with how the Bosch Motronic system
works..   there are some things that can done to make the issue smaller
but it will never go away,  go to Wilks 944 webstie for more details

Hello and Thanks for the reply!!  I clicked on the link but the page was
just a picture of a 944 with no more information??  Do you know the
factory "RPM" settings on a 83 944??  Thanks! :)Nel

Get a can of gumout and remove the air filter element.  With the engine
idling spray some gumout into the intake.  The air flow valve is
probably sticking.  I do this about every two years with my 944.  Also,
recommend taking the rubber boot loose and spraying a heavy dose into
the valve and let it soak overnight.
Set the idle at 950

Thanks for the help!!  Should the rpm be 950 with the engine warm and
air conditioning off??  Thanks and I will try the Gum Out today!! :)Nel

Had the exact same problem with my Porsche.  Replace the air flow
sensor and the throttle housing (think that is the correct name, it
bolts to the inlet manifold), this will cure the problem and have it
ticking over at 950rpm.

Yea - it's working like it's supposed to.  My 83 - 944 lasted to 500,000
miles original engine and tranny...car was hit in rear so now i have a 1987.

I think what we are asking is how did you solve the problem?
