the quickest way is to have it serviced....

or you could be a bit more detailed in what you really mean by "doesn't
blow cold"..

agree with doug - short posts like that sound like trolling.  but on the
chance that you are serious -get R134 kit, convert, recharge.  Frequently HP
hose from compressor to condenser fails, R&R - don't buy from porsche, it's
$500

where should i buy from?
doug - 04 Aug 2005 06:06 GMT
Griffiths, Pelican Parts, Vertex, providing you are in the USA

but the first thing i would do is take to an a/c shop and have the
system checked after that you can make the decision on what to fix... a
diagnostic shouldn't run more then US $30-50

a conversion kit costs about $20 to $30 with the fittings and some R134 -
just convert and see if it starts working - it will be less efficient, but
it will be OK for most places (except maybe Kuwait city in august)

do you know wher the high presure valve is located?
william_b_noble - 12 Sep 2005 05:45 GMT
one valve is located on top of the LH fender well, the other is on the
pump - if memory serves the HP is the one on the fender well.  at least on
85.5 and later, no clue on the earlier ones.

You should also replace the receiver/dryer ($20-30), as the dessicant
is not compatible with R134 systems.

But first have your system checked out to make sure it isn't leaking.
If it's not blowing cold because the R12 leaked out, it prolly won't
blow cold for long - just until the R134 leaks out.

I've read that if your conversion kit uses PAG oil, you have to make
sure you get all the current mineral oil out as the two won't mix and
may clump together - same for the older ester oils.  A synthetic ester
(PolyOl ester, or POL) is supposedly compatible with both PAG and
mineral oil.

I have a conversion kit and am about to make the switch after I get
some time.

Drivers side wheel arch at the top near the fender edge insode the
engine compartment

Doug, I'm assuming that's for left-hand drive (NA) cars?

Where's the low side valve (this would be where the refrigerant goes
in)?  Specifically, for an '86.  I've read:

1) that it's near the position you described, near the airbox, and
2) that it's underneath the car, left front corner, and
3) on the condenser itself

Haven't tried looking for it myself yet because I'm waiting for some
new hood struts so I don't have to hold/prop the hood up (did briefly
look when I checked the oil and a few other things on my recently
purchased '86 and saw two valves next to each other in the spot you
mentioned).  Thanks in advance.

Low pressure fill input is on the compressor.  Also, look up a product
called "autofrost" on the net for a better low cost refrigerant.

I was looking at the Porsche Factory Workshop Manuals and there's a
note on the bottom of a page that as of the '87 model year, the low
pressure fill is on the compressor.

Sadly, I have an '86.

Thanks, looks interesting but I already have the r134a.  Curious,
though, for future info - is it a direct refill for R12 (evacuate the
R12 and replace with Autofrost) or do you need to do anything else?
Does it use the R12 mineral oil, or is PAG used?

the low side is under the car, about 3 inches from where the hose goes
into the compressor  (at least that is where it was on mine)

hey
Thanks for the response. What i mean by it not blowing cold is it like
blows air the same temp the the air actually in the car is. the
compressor turns on.
