CV joints...best to just take out one side and them turn them around end to
end, and re-install them.   Then the joint starts wearing all over again in
a different section of the bearing.  Also - many times the sound comes from
the other side that you think it's coming from - so do both sides.

My mechanic did this at about 75K.  I asked if this was some kind of
temporary fix, and he replied "if you consider 75K miles temporary".  Just
wanted to input my 2 cents and validate that this is an excellent fix.   A
buddy of mine had his bearings replaced at a cost of 4 times what my
mechanic charged.

Though it isnt really as good a fix as a new cv joint.  Sometimes I can hear
the joint make a swooshy sound, and maybe a bit more vibration...though I
cam live with all that until the next 100K miles - for such expensive parts.

My first 83-944 lasted 500K miles -- original engine, transmission.
My newer 87, 944 with auto transmission, runs like a dream with 200K miles.

Nothing like the 83 Porsche ran as well...

My 87 - now runs great after taking the main computer brain apart and
re-soldering the connections !! RECOMMENDED!!  (and same for the cruise
control.)
