I have been looking at Beck 550 replicas and wondering if they are decent
vehicles.

Of course, there are several companies out there who make them, but two or
three seem to dominate.

Has anybody on this board driven one of these cars?  Do they perform well or
do they just look sexy?  What is the build-quality for these
fiberglass-bodied cars?  Is there a big difference between the VW-chassis
cars and the custom-frame cars?

Thanks.

I have the same interest in these cars as you do. I don't own one yet,
but I have been in info gathering mode. Try these websites:

http://www.spyderclub.com

http://www.spyderowners.com

The spyderowners website will ask you for a password. Don't be
discouraged as registration is free and open to anyone with an
interest in 550's.

Thanks.

I've been browsing these sites and noticing a lot of griping about the auto
vendors.

They sound a lot like other small-volume manufacturers that I know.

I need to know if I can fit into the damned thing (I am 6' 2" and weigh 215
lbs).

There is one for sale only 1.5 hours from where I live, and want to know if
it's worth my driving down to see it.  I don't know if it's tube-frame or
VW-chassis, so I'd like input before investing the time.

Thanks for your reply.
