Hi,
i recently brought a porsche 924 turbo and a few days later the engine
siezed. im just curious if anyone knows of any engines that can be put in
other than porsche engines? Frome what i understand there will need to be
some changes made to the bell housing. does anyone know what this would
cost?

thanks

You can install a Chevy V-6 or V-8. Keep a few things in mind...

A good job will cost you around $10K (In a $2K car)

If you can't do things yourself, set aside another $2K to $3K for issues.

Unless you pay more for the lighter heads, you will have to beef up the
suspension to handle the weight.

You will DEFINITELY have to upgrade the brakes.

You will have to live without A/C

You will NEVER recoup the cost you put into it.

You will be using Chevy parts...not exactly the number one name in
reliability.

Basically, I am saying, save your money, scrap the 924 and with what you
would spend on a conversion, get a nice Turbo, S, S2, 911SC.

You may be able to pick up a second hand 924 engine in NZ quite cheaply.
The is a scrapyard out of Hamilton that wrecks just Porsches.

924 came initially with an Audi engine. When they went to the 944 it
was a Porsche built engine. While both will fit, modifications required
may make it too expensive. Join Porsche Club America (www.pca.org) and
contact their technical guy on 924s who can give you a more detailed
answer.
