Hi,
I have a question that I don't think has been asked here (or not for awhile
anyway, since I don't know how to search archives).
Does anyone know how much weight a bunk-end can handle in a 1987 Starcraft
Starmaster? Or where I can find that out? No manual came with the camper
when we bought it 2nd hand. And I've searched the web to no avail.
The reason I am asking is that we need to find something else to sleep on
besides those thin foam mattresses that are standard. We used to put both
mattresses on one end and sleep on both, but daughter going this time, and
she'll need her mattress. So, I realized my full-size futon mattress is the
perfect fit. It's a cheapy and I think it weighs about 50lbs. So, add
another 210 for him and 175 for me. Do you think that's too much weight? We
usually sleep on the rear bunk, but maybe we should switch to the tongue-end
bunk?
Any opinions or suggestions?
Thanks,
Kathy and Joseph

We put 13 years on a bought-new 1987 Starcraft Galaxy. To my recollection,
there never was an official specification for what you are looking for.
Considering the very simplistic mechanism that holds the bunk up (the
"receivers" that are mounted on the underside of the bunk that secure the ends
of the prop tubes/pipes are critical), it would take little effort to ensure
it is sturdy and secure.
Check the support system and keep it maintained and you'll have no problem.

I don't think weight will be an issue. My wife and I camped for 6 years on the
bunk end of a Starcraft Starflyer. Combined, we tip the scales at about the same
weight as you guys.

That is my Starcraft dealer that has been around for about 35 years. Email Paul
and he will most likely help you out.

Consider also the height of the futon mattress and whether it will interfere
with closing the top completely.

I don't think we are going to leave it in the camper. It would be too thick.
We'll just carry it in the van and put it in the camper once we get there.
