Hi Mike:
We live in Albany, NY and visited Mystic this past summer. Would also
like
to know about camping in the Mystic area.
Also, on a tangent, would like to locate some beaches in the Conn. Rhode
Island, NJ area with good size waves - 4 foot or so. Just for some rough
swimming - no surfing!

We stayed at the Seaport Campground at Mystic back during the
week of 9/11/01. We were satisfied with it. Being near the
shore all sites are level. The have water, electric and cable. We
don't have kids so can't comment on playground. Very little
shade, some sites have one tree and the sites are large.

I'll echo what's been said about Seaport Campground
(http://www.seaportcampground.com/). Level sites, no shade, but very clean.
The campground seems to be split between a "vacation" section where people
come & go, and a seasonal section. IIRC, there were about three trees in
the transient section.
