Jayco Hybrids?

Howdy folks,

I used to frequent ARVPUT a couple of years ago (before I lost my camper
in my divorce).  I've been getting the itch again and wanted to move up
to a hybrid. The old pop-up is too much of a pain to set up and I really
want something with a bathroom.

I'm STRONGLY leaning toward the 2005 Jayco Jay Feather EXP 25-E camper.
Do any of you have any constructive advice/criticism about that
particular model? Any trend issues I need to know about?

Thanx!

Chris:
Sad to hear about your divorce....my condolences
If you're all set to get a Jayco, then by all means go for it.  If this
unit is a hybrid, you may want to consider a hard side, light weight
trailer.  I have a Trailmanor and am satisfied with it.  It folds down
like a pop-up, but has a full bath and lots of other things that a
regular trailer has.  Also, for an overnight stop, it can remain
hitched to the tow vehicle.  See www.trailmanor.com.
I have no connection with them, except I own one.
I visited your web site.

My parents have a Jay Feather and love it.  They only have one problem with
it.  They want to camp in Big South Fork in Kentucky but it is bear country.
The national park system has some pretty strict food storage rules for such
parks.  If they pop out the ends of their camper, they cannot store, or
prepare, food in the camper!  If you will never camp in bear territory, you
don't have to worry about it.

We looked at hybrids, but since we live very near the Great Smokey Mountains
(bear territory), we decided on an ultralight hard sided camper instead (a
Rockwood).  There is not much weight difference between it and a hybrid, and
I get hard sides and 4 season camping.

You might want to look at  the K-Z coyote. we have put over 9000 miles each
summer for 3 years on ours with no problems other than bending a rear jack
in a pothole.   We have owned it 4 years but only used it for travel the
last 3.  We teach so we live in it for 2 months each summer and love it.
Have driven the whole east coat and across the Rockies with not a hiccup.
Watch out for some hybrids though I have heard of some models whose
blackwater drain is so low it hard to dump them.  The Coyote sits up nice
and high.  Fully loaded except for water tank it weighs 4400lb.  and we
really cram a lot of stuff in it for a 2 month trip everything from Dutch
ovens to piles of heavy books.
One thing to note about a hybrid in very cold weather you may have
condensation on the inside of the fabric just like a popup.  However you
have a huge amount of living space compared to a standard hardside trailer
since floor space isn't taken up by beds.  Get a slide out if you can  it
gives you way more room.
