Well the Aztek can pull I know that for sure, the Aztek Fan Club has
people who tow all the time....plus alot of Azteks have towing
packages already installed on them which raises to 3500.
Was just wondering if I could get more insight here on popups.
It is made to tow :)

Just not not very much. 8-)
I would look at a popup that is really lightweight, such as Aliner, Chalet or
equivalent.
Towing capacity of a vehicle is reduced by the weight of:
*Passengers
*Gear in both the trailer and tow vehicle
*Fluids in both vehicles
So the 2500# capacity of the vehicle is quickly depleted by the amount of stuff
you carry.

Hi,
Checking with a fan club for anything is like smelling the roses and
not bothering to look to see if there are any bees inside. A fan club
is usually pretty prejudice in favor of its main topic. This usually
means you are more likely to hear how many tons an Aztek can tow up a
10 percent grade at 70 MPH then how many transmissions, overheating
and other problems it has towing anything. Like maybe only being
capable of going 45 MPH up a 10 percent grade, and not really doing
very well once you start towing something in the 1.5- 2K range. You
go to the fan club to make yourself feel good about the vehicle you
bought. Here you get some honest opinions, which may also differ
between individuals, about what it can really tow. Then you decide
what you want to do.
I can tow a travel trailer with my lawn tractor. Problem is stopping
it and making sudden maneuvers once I get it rolling. Same problem
with short wheel base vehicles, like Aztek's towing too heavy a
trailer behind them stopping and sudden maneuvers can be exciting.
It's not that you cannot tow it, it's about how safe and comfortable
you are doing it and how much stress and strain you put on the tow
vehicle. Do you really want to tow something that weighs 3500 lbs.
when the tow vehicle itself only has a curb weight of 4000 lbs.? Also
you reduce the tow rating by *all* the weight you have in the tow
vehicle. Includes people, animals, gas, food, clothes, tools and your
rock collection if any :) You can put some of that, maybe all but the
people and animals, in the pop up but then you have to be careful not
to over load the popup.
You need to get a light popup like an Aliner. Something in the
1-1.5K range. If you want all the bells and whistles look at the
Aliner LXE with the Expedition Package. There are other light weights
out there. Once you start adding things they get heavy rather quickly
though.

Minor point, here.... It doesn't matter whether the extra weight of
people, cargo, fluids, etc is placed into the tow vehicle or the
trailer. It is subtracts from the max available tow capacity
regardless. The max tow rating is just a convenient indicator of how
much total cargo and trailer weight can be added to the base vehicle.
The entire amount of this max tow rating cannot be loaded into the tow
vehicle, obviously, because this would then exceed the front and/or
rear load limits on the tires and suspension. Also the trailers have
specified load limits on how much total weight can be place onto their
suspension systems.

Actually it's not a minor point at all. Thanks for pointing that out.
Some folks get confused over weight ratings and I clouded up the issue
for sure.

Some people bungee jump off of bridges.
That doesn't mean that I want to join them.

My personal choice of a tow vehicle is a 2004 F-150
4x4 pickup with the 5.4L Triton motor. 300 HP and 365 ft-lbs
torque makes towing a lot easier and a lot less dangerous.

that's true if you tow a pop-up or light weight TT... but not if you tow
a 37' fifth whell with 3 slides.... ;-)
