My camper's A/C doesn't cool nearly as well as it should. I suspect the
thing is gone low on freon over the years.
I don't have any experience with RV air conditioning. Is there a way to
check/recharge the system? I inquired about new unit prices and at $700.00
you can bet I want to try and fix the one I have!
Thanks to anyone who can offer advice.

If you have the equipment, licenses and knowledge it would be a diy. Best
is to find someone to work on it cause your going to pay more than $500.00
for the tools and freon. IF you can find someone to sell it to you. Even
Checker Auto is getting pissy if you do not have a license here.
I have never cracked a unit like you describe. If there are Schrader valves
then testing and such is easy. If there are no valves then you have to
reclaim the charge and sweat new ones in. Not a job for the novice. IMO

You already have good advice on the other groups you posted to. If you
want to be happy with your air conditioner, if cleaning all the coils
and filters doesn't solve your problem, it's time for a new unit.
