Hi:

I need 2 new tires for the camper - Coleman Rio '98.  What would be
recommended?  I don't need anything fancy just some basic tires.  Trying
not
to spend too much money either.

Thank you.

Wal-Mart has some ST type tires. I understand Big O Tire Stores also has them as
well. You may need to call around a bit as well. ST tires are not as available
as regular tires.

Hi Bob,

I would recommend going to a reputable tire shop and having them put radial
trailer tires on.  Just have them prove to you that the load rating is
sufficient for your axle and trailer setup.

My '96 Starcraft went from being a twitchy beast on down
hill curves to 'Is there a trailer back there?' when in the middle of a
vacation one of the bias ply tires developed a bulge and I put on a set of
radials.  I'll never go back to bias ply on a trailer!!!

Of course your mileage may and probably will vary...

Cheers,

Warren K.

IMHO the best tire for your money is the best you can possibly afford. Of
course, there is nothing like recaps for your mother-in-law...

Hi:

Ah...humor!  Short story...When in college 4 of us drove to Florida from
Albany NY.  You could hear pieces of the tire slowly start to peal away
and
tap the inside of the wheel well.  Louder tapping...LOUDER
TAPPING...then...a weird tumbling type noise in the wheel
well...then...silence.

Sounds like the beginning of a Steven King novel...went through 3 tires on
the way down...37 1.2 hour drive.

Can you say...Nightmare?

A couple of years ago I had a tire practically explode on me when it
went over a railroad track. I may have had too much weight on it at
the time? In any case, there was almost nothing left of the tire.

Whatever you do, make sure the tires are rated for your camper. Some
campers require tires that have much stronger sidewalls than car tires.

Fortunately the tire place I went to was honest enough not to sell me
something that would have left me stranded on the road.

take care,
