If you find one, Bob, let US know. We went looking, as well, to no
avail. We even considered the northern end of LI, out by Montauk or so,
with the idea of taking the train into the city at need from there. No
soap.
The only place we didn't check was Jersey... a bit far, perhaps.

A couple of days after I posted in this newsgroup I posted a similar
question in a forum http://www.popupexplorer.com/forum/default.asp (...may
require registration, but it's worth it) under their category North East
Tri-State PUX Campers and just received the following answer: "It's not LI
or NJ....Croton Point Park at Croton-on-Hudson NY. County owned CG in
Westchester, just outside the CG is a Train Station, the Train runs into the
City."
I did a google search for "Croton Point Park" and found their web site
[http://www.westchestergov.com/parks/Parks.htm] with the following
directions: "Croton Point Park, Croton-on-Hudson, (914) 862-5290. Route 9
north or south to Croton Point Avenue exit; head west over bridge into
park."
On a mapping program [Microsoft Streets & Trips 2005], it measures about 36
to 40 north of Manhattan.
You might want to check the other forum to see if more responses come in.

I got another response from the post in the
http://www.popupexplorer.com/forum/default.asp forum. Recommended in New
Jersey is (http://www.libertyharborrv.com/index.htm). Their web site says,
"See the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island right from your site", but I'm
impressed with the other amenities at the Croton Point Park location. We're
going to fly to Hartford next month to visit my son and skip NYC until next
year and combine NYC with Acadia Nationl Park (Maine) and more of New
England.
