The stereo in our Jayco Kiwi 23B has always been problematic and now the CD
player won't stay closed.  We don't use it a lot, but don't like having a
broken stereo in our trailer.  I haven't been able to find a replacement.
Does anyone know where I can find a used one that works - or have ideas for
a better replacement ?   Thanks.

Scott,
Do a search on eBay for "rv stereo" I just checked and there are several
listed.  That said the typical "RV Stereo" is not of very high
quality..(although it's good enough for me) If you want to spend a little
more many upgrade to a standard Automobile type ..

What kind of a stereo does that have?  In my Starcraft it came with a
undercounter all in 1 stereo with built in speakers.  It sounded poor.
I replaced it with a conventional car stereo mounted in a plastic under
dash box.  I then mounted speakers elsewhere and routed the wires to it.
Even added outside speakers.  Very easy to install.  If yours is
undercounter style I'll send ya pics of what I did.  I now have a great
sounding stereo.

I personally would replace it with a car stereo.  Even the cheep car stereos
are of better quality than the stereos that come in RV's.

I had the same issue with the Executive unit in my Jayco.  I contacted Mito
and explained tghe problem and they sent me a new door latch which I
installed myself.  Problem fixed for now, but he latch is the weak link in
the unit.  When it goes again, if Mito has no more replacement latches, I
will put an automotive stereo in it.  I will miss te WX band though.

Mike - do you have contact information for Mito ?  That would be very
helpful.  I have not been able to locate that.

Thanks to all who replied.  It is not an undercounter type ... it is built
in to the cabinets above the stove, sort of a wall mount unit, though not
quite like some of the ones on eBay (it's smaller - fits in roughly a 10" x
" hole).  And, I'm not ready to spend $150 on it ...

I thought about the cheap car stereo option, and may end up going that way.
I would prefer to keep it looking "stock" rather than trying to come up with
some creative way to fill a 10" x 6" hole that doesn't look like a hack job.
And as Mike points out, the Weather band is a nice feature.

The cheap (not) Kenwood car stereo I now have blows away the cheap (very)
std RV unit. No more problems with weak AM or FM stations, full graphic
equilizers, memories, etc. etc.

How about simply fixing the one you've got?
Those doors are usually just a rather simple catch mechenism with a
spring catch...Let me have a look-see at what I can find.

Actually, I wish I had the 7000.... I've got the 6000.... plays
casettes. It's OK, I've got lost of them to play, but still....
