Coleman/Fleetwood Lift System  No Longer Clicks

Hello,

The manual lift system on my '97 Coleman/Fleetwood Santa Fe always used
to make a "clicking" noise when it was going up.  Recently, I was
cranking it down and my have gone too far, because I heard a "thud".
Now when I crank it up, it no longer makes the "clicking" noise,
although it does seem to stay locked in the upright position.  Should I
worry about this?

Thanks,
Dan

proceedure is in your owners manual to reset the rachet. You either over
crank when raising or lowering, but I dont recall which off the top of my
head.

My manual is inside the trailer, inside the garage, so I cant popup and get
to it.

Just crank up.   Eventually it will click back into position.  Sometimes you
have to go all the way up.

Hold on good while doing this, because the roof will come down fast if you
let it.

If you read that as a complaint, you are the one with a problem.

And possibly break your forearm if you're not careful.

Yea...I would worry. I'll bet the clicking noise is the spring loaded
"catch" in the winch crank system. Seems that I have seen this posted on
other forums such as www.popupexplorer.com and similar. I think one of the
guys said you have to overcrank it next time it goes up to reset the catch.
I am going by memory here so I would research it carefully before I do any
experimenting like overcranking, etc. It could be it needs a simple fix as
described here or a service call at the dealer. Start checking around and
asking questions on other forums. I think it will be worth the time and
provide you with some peace of mind.

Hi Dan,

Here's the quote from my 2001 Fleetwood Owner's Manual: "A clicking
sound should always be audible while cranking the top up.  If not, when
the top is fully raised, lightly over-crank the handle to engage the
clutch mechanism." and "Do not release the crank handle if the audible
clicking sound is not heard."

It should say "Do not release the crank handle if the audible clicking sound
is not heard, unless you don't mind having your forearm broken as the crank
handle whips around and smashes it."
